Activities
EWA's activities focus on the development of a 'Clean E-Waste Channel'. To achieve this goal a four folded approach has been taken. It consists of :
  • developing and running training modules for relevant stakeholders
  • uplifting the informal recyclers
  • drafting guidelines for the handling of e-waste and
  • increasing awareness in the field of e-waste.
A road map specifies the various activities in these fields up to 2008. According to this roadmap the year 2006 will see a trial run for the implementation of a ‘Clean E-Waste Channel’. Operations will be formalized in 2007. In 2008 the systems reach within Bangalore is to be expanded, financing to be secured and the model exported to other Indian cities.

    Training of Enterprises
    EWA is currently conducting a training program for informal recyclers of e-waste. It focuses on three aspects :

    • Implementation of safety and health standards in the workshops
    • Reduction of environmental impact
    • Assistance in dealing with authorities
    Participation in the program will enable informal workshops to meet the requirements for registration and authorization in their respective business. The program initially relied on knowledge provided by international experts but is now largely run by local consultants trained through EWA.     Awareness

    E-Waste, Bangalore's Challenge (Film)
     The film gives a short introduction to the problem of e-waste. It identifies the rapid grows of the IT-Sector in Bangalore as the main source of WEEE in Bangalore. It focuses on the problem of scrap computers and takes into account the positions held by the government, the IT-Industry, the informal sector, various NGOs and EWA.
